Call Your Legislators to Oppose Nonprofit "Terrorism-Financing" Provision
Congress is currently considering a reconciliation package known as the “One Big, Beautiful Bill,” which includes troubling language in Section 112209 of the bill. This provision would give the Secretary of the Treasury sweeping authority to label any nonprofit organization as a “terrorist-supporting organization” — forcing the accused to prove their innocence. Existing laws already prohibit nonprofits from financing terrorism; this provision (previously known as H.R. 9495) is redundant, overly broad, and ripe for abuse by political opponents. It undermines the fundamental constitutional principle of the presumption of innocence and threatens to chill advocacy work of charities whose mission conflicts with the president's agenda — regardless of who holds the office . Even if a nonprofit clears its name, the stigma of such an accusation can irreparably harm donor relationships and jeopardize its ability to access basic organizational operations such as banking services. Please call your members of Congress to protect nonprofit rights and due process — oppose Section 112209.
